Goldsmith Street

Norwich City Council

“After four and a half years hard work acting on behalf of the client we are pleased to see that residents are moving into and enjoying the community feel of the Goldsmiths Street Project, currently the largest wholly social rent Passivhaus scheme in the UK.

Goldsmith Street has been highlighted as amoung the 10 best examples of architechture taking shape in the world this year. The £17m scheme of 105 homes – a mix of 45 one-bedroom flats, 40 two-bedroom houses, three two-bedroom flats and five four-bedroom flats – was picked out by The Times newspaper.

The homes, owned and managed by Norwich City Council, will be rented out to people with housing need. They are being built by RG Carter and designed by architect Mikhail Riches.”

The scheme has won numerous awards:

  • RIBA Stirling Prize Winner 2019

I’ve seen the future and it’s Norwich:
the energy-saving, social housing revolution

The 100 homes on Goldsmith Street aren’t just smart and modern. They may be the most energy-efficient houses ever built in the UK.
Could this be the start of proper social housing?

Martin has worked extensively with myself and the Development Team for two years across a wide range of projects including the £14million Passivhaus scheme off Goldsmith Street in Norwich… We appointed him to assist in in the project management role. However we have been sufficiently impressed with his expertise, project management skills and energy that his role has expanded to including the client liaison role and building a good relationship with the entire Project team… Martins support has been invaluable during a period of significant change for Norwich City Council and Barron Smith and I would fully endorse his excellent interpersonal skills, breadth of knowledge and commercial approach to all the projects he has been involved in.
Will Trowse Development Director Barron Smith.
